Based in Shenzhen, China and reporting to the Sr. Manager, Forensic Engineering in our San Francisco headquarters, the Compliance Engineer will be a key part of the technical team responsible for worldwide compliance and enforcement. This individual will work closely with our IP Protection group to promote compliance and prevent licensing and trademark infringement in the market. The Compliance Engineer will be responsible for performing analysis of available information and guide the field audits and enforcement, leveraging technical expertise and partnering with colleagues as needed. The position will also act as a technical resource across the larger IPP organization and external partners.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Product Testing and Analysis
    • Test consume electronics, mobile devices, software and more for infringement, including identifying Dolby Technologies, components and manufacturers.
    • Test Android and iOS devices/apps to identify infringement or non-compliance across our ecosystem.
    • Partner with cross functional team to Investigate potential infringement issues.
    • Research, identify, procure and test samples as necessary to detect infringement and gather intelligence.
    • Assisting software compliance lead in assessing third-party solutions with respect to preventive compliance, such as encryption, locking, tracking, tracing, monitoring technologies and mechanisms.
  • Audit support
    • Pre-audit analysis – Perform product analysis of companies selected for audits, including review of available internal and external data. Research and analyze publicly available information to identify products using licensed technology.
    • Visit and assess customers manufacturing and design facilities as part of on-site inspection.
    • Provide onsite and offsite technical assistance, including reviewing product specs, datasheets, RFQs, software mgmt. systems, IP tracking systems, Inventory management systems and any other relevant documentation.
    • Post-audit analysis – product testing and technology assessment as needed, for identifying all relevant technologies.
    • Perform macro level analysis across product segments, to identify non-compliance and potential opportunities.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in reverse engineering, compliance engineering, failure investigation or Intellectual Property protection desired
  • Ability to effectively communicate with companies in the APAC region, including possessing Chinese language skills (Mandarin or Cantonese)
  • Familiarity with audio codecs and multimedia frameworks.
  • Familiarity with products teardown and knowledge of key electrical components
  • Attention to detail and a thorough approach to problem-solving
  • Efficiently handle ambiguity and multiple competing priorities at work.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to work autonomously with a geographically distributed team.
  • Occasional international travel is required for this position.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with testing consumer audio/video products such as consumer electronics, mobile phones, and tablets.
  • Understand consumer electronics connectivity and signal flow.
  • Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated experience performing data analysis and trending.
  • Experience in testing for 3rd party IP is highly desirable.
  • Interest in music, audio/video production, recording engineering, game/film audio or video highly desirable.
