Summary Description

The Senior IT Network Engineer, Level 3 is responsible for advanced operational support, engineering, automation, and project delivery for Dolby’s global network services. This role provides escalation-level expertise across LAN, WAN, wireless, remote access, firewall, cloud connectivity, network access control, monitoring, and network security services. The position uses ITIL practices, including incident, problem, service request, and change management, to resolve complex issues and improve the reliability, security, and scalability of Dolby’s network environment. The role also supports automation and infrastructure-as-code practices using tools such as Ansible Tower/AWX, Git-based workflows, APIs, and scripting to standardize configuration, reduce manual effort, and improve operational consistency.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Research, design, configure, maintain, monitor, automate, consult, and report on the following technical areas of focus:
      • WAN service and maintenance
      • LAN service and maintenance
      • Wireless networking service and maintenance
      • Remote access service and maintenance
      • Routing and VLAN maintenance
      • Firewall maintenance
      • Networked application maintenance
      • Network services security
      • Network access control services, including Forescout policy, posture, segmentation, visibility, and enforcement capabilities
      • Networked systems monitoring, auditing, and reporting
      • Network automation and infrastructure-as-code workflows using Ansible Tower/AWX, Git, APIs, templates, and repeatable deployment standards
  • Must have experience in maintaining and troubleshooting complex Layer 3 enterprise networks using BGP, including diagnosing routing adjacencies, route propagation, path-selection, reachability, and asymmetric routing issues.
  • Maintain, administer, and troubleshoot network operations on a day-to-day basis, including escalation support for complex production issues.
  • Deploy, maintain, and provide technical guidance for network components, standards, naming conventions, IP services, VLANs, routing, DNS, DHCP, VPN, IPsec, and related infrastructure services.
  • Experience deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise SD-WAN solutions, including WAN connectivity, overlay routing, path selection, application-aware traffic policies, redundancy, and site-to-site connectivity.
  • Provide and maintain comprehensive documentation of Dolby’s network infrastructure.
  • Support secured remote access infrastructure interconnectivity for network resources to the mobile worker, the home-office employee, and to external business partners.
  • Evaluate, test, and deploy supplemental networking tools and functionality as needed, including maintaining lab or pre-production environments for new network products, disaster recovery scenarios, and automation validation.
  • Act as Level 3 support and a networking technology resource for the Service Desk, IT field support teams, infrastructure teams, and engineering groups. Collaborate with stakeholders and provide technical guidance on complex network-related projects and escalations.
  • Participate in a follow-the-sun 24x7 on-call IT Infrastructure engineer rotation with other members of the IT Infrastructure group.
  • Independently manage the execution of small and medium-size projects focused on delivering new network capabilities, including defining deliverables and milestones, reporting project status, and coordinating with internal business partners, infrastructure teams, security teams, and external vendors to deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Develop and maintain network automation playbooks, reusable templates, standard operating procedures, and configuration standards that support repeatable change delivery and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Perform tasks assigned by the immediate manager to complete performance objectives and assist team members as needed.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Education Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an IT network engineer in a corporate environment supporting global networks, with Level 3 escalation experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in implementing and maintaining the following network technologies:
      • Cisco hardware and operating systems, including Cisco Catalyst and Cisco Nexus switching.
      • Palo Alto Networks (PAN) firewall platforms and VPN solutions.
      • Forescout network access control platform, including device visibility, policy design, segmentation support, posture assessment, enforcement, and operational troubleshooting.
      • Network routing protocols, including TCP/IP and BGP.
      • Meraki switches and access point experience and/or 802.11 a/b/g/n standards.
      • Network services, QOS, and network hardware (i.e. switches, routers, firewalls, etc.) in a LAN/WAN environment.
  • Working knowledge of:
      • Virtualization technologies and how network services integrate with virtualized and cloud-hosted environments.
      • Cloud networking concepts is desired, including AWS VPCs, subnets, route tables, internet gateways, virtual private gateways, VPN connectivity, and EC2 networking.
  • Desired experience with:
      • Non-Cisco switching platforms is preferred (e.g., Arista, etc.).
      • Network automation and infrastructure-as-code tools and practices, including Ansible Tower/AWX, YAML, Git, APIs, templates, scripting, and configuration validation.
      • Supporting DNS and DHCP services across Windows and Linux platforms.
      • Application load balancers ( e.g. F5, etc)
  • Experience managing small and mid-size projects involving team members in multiple regions.
  • Solid understanding of ITIL processes; ITIL Foundations certification is nice to have.
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to research and test solutions, and strong planning and project coordination skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills (in English).
  • Excellent communication, listening, and customer service skills.
