We are seeking a Databricks Governance & Data Engineering Manager to lead governance strategy and execution across our Databricks environment while driving development of scalable data pipelines and foundational datasets. This role ensures compliance, security, and data quality while enabling advanced analytics and AI/ML capabilities. You will define governance frameworks, manage Unity Catalog, and partner with cross-functional teams to enforce standards and deliver robust data engineering solutions.
- Governance Frameworks:
- Maintain governance policies, standards, and best practices for Databricks and related data platforms.
- Implement processes for metadata management, data classification, and lineage tracking.
- Unity Catalog Management:
- Manage catalog structures, access policies, and entitlement models.
- Ensure proper tagging, auditing, and compliance enforcement.
- Security & Compliance:
- Implement fine-grained access controls, masking, and encryption for sensitive data.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with regulatory requirements (GDPR, HIPAA, SOX).
- Data Engineering Development
- Implement scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from diverse sources (real-time events, APIs, structured/unstructured datasets).
- Utilize distributed frameworks (e.g., Spark) for high-volume, low-latency data processing.
- Build and maintain data models, schemas, and foundational datasets aligned with platform standards.
- Optimize data workflows for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, and Security teams to ensure seamless integration.
- Collaboration & Enablement
- Partner with business stakeholders to align governance and engineering efforts with strategic goals.
- Drive adoption of governance and engineering best practices through training and communication.
- Continuous Improvement
- Monitor KPIs for governance and pipeline performance, remediate issues, and optimize processes.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in governance and data engineering.
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
- 7+ years in data governance, data management, or enterprise data architecture.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks and Unity Catalog (catalog design, access policies, lineage).
- Technical Development Skills:
- 5+ years in data engineering with large-scale pipelines and distributed processing
- Strong knowledge of metadata management, data stewardship, and data quality frameworks.
- Advanced SQL skills for data manipulation and optimization.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python preferred).
- Expertise with distributed data processing (Spark) and modern lakehouse architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services.
- Security & Compliance:
- Expertise in implementing governance for sensitive data and regulatory compliance.
- Leadership & Communication:
- Ability to influence stakeholders and mentor data stewards.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and business teams.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, data science, information systems, or related field.
Preferred Skills
- Certifications: Databricks Certified Data Engineer or similar.
