The Dolby imaging team in Berlin designs algorithms and develops software that enables the next generation of Dolby's media processing technologies. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead technical initiatives within an engineering team designing, developing, and testing video processing algorithms and software products. You will provide technical leadership and mentorship while working closely with cross-functional teams including product management, research, and quality assurance.
Job Functions:
- Lead the design and implementation of complex algorithms, software libraries and applications for media processing and distribution based on product requirements
- Drive architecture decisions and technical strategy for software implementations
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to development teams
- Lead optimization efforts for existing software implementations and establish performance benchmarks
- Collaborate with QA to design comprehensive testing frameworks and automated test suites
- Research, evaluate and lead implementation of cutting-edge algorithms for digital video processing and delivery
- Serve as technical liaison with co-developers, technical writers, product stakeholders, and external partners
- Contribute to technical roadmap planning and cross-team coordination
Position Requirements:
- MS Degree in Electrical Engineering
- 8+ years of expert-level software development experience in C and C++
- 5+ years of specialized experience with video coding, video processing and/or image processing tools and frameworks
- Demonstrated leadership experience in algorithm development and software architecture
- Deep understanding of signal processing fundamentals and advanced video coding techniques
- Proven track record of leading technical projects and mentoring team members
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English with ability to present to senior stakeholders
Desirable Qualifications:
- Advanced proficiency with software development tools (MS Visual Studio, GCC, CMake, debugging tools)
- Knowledge of machine learning and related frameworks like PyTorch and/or Tensorflow
- Expert-level assembler programming for x86 including popular SIMD instruction sets
- Advanced knowledge of scripting languages (Python, JavaScript) and automation frameworks
- System-level expertise across Linux, macOS and Windows platforms
- Advanced git/gitlab-ci workflow management and branching strategies
- Publications or patents in video processing, computer vision, or related fields
