About the NextGen Program:

NextGen is Via LA’s multi-phase enterprise modernization program focused on transforming legacy licensing, royalty-management, financial, and operational processes into a modular, cloud-native platform. The program is designed to improve automation, scalability, maintainability, data integrity, business-rule transparency, end-to-end traceability, and operational controls while reducing dependency on tightly coupled legacy applications. The platform supports complex, rules-driven processes across patent licensing, royalty reporting and processing, financial calculations, tax, audit and compliance, document management, notifications, reporting, and related operational workflows. The target architecture leverages reusable business capabilities, workflow orchestration, APIs, event-driven integrations, configurable business rules, and modern cloud services.

Position Summary:

The Senior Business Systems Analyst (BSA) will play a critical role in the analysis, design, delivery, validation, and implementation of Via LA’s NextGen platform while continuing to support related legacy applications during the transformation. The BSA will translate complex business needs into clear, testable, and traceable requirements and serve as a key liaison across business, Product Owners, developers, QA, and operational teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

This role requires strong business-analysis discipline and sufficient technical depth to collaborate effectively on microservices, workflows, APIs, data models, integration contracts, cloud services, and system dependencies. The BSA is not expected to develop application code but must understand technical designs, identify gaps and downstream impacts, and ensure implemented solutions align with approved business requirements. This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of three days per week in the Greenwood Village office. We are looking for a collaborative professional who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow while helping the team achieve its goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Analysis, Requirements & Scope Management

  • Lead requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, validation, and refinement for complex enterprise capabilities.

  • Develop and maintain BRDs, FRDs, use cases, user stories, business rules, acceptance criteria, decision tables, process flows, and functional specifications.

  • Translate complex licensing, royalty, accounting, tax, compliance, and operational processes into implementable system requirements

  • Facilitate workshops with Product Owners, business stakeholders, SMEs, architects, developers, QA engineers, and implementation partners.

  • Perform current-state, future-state, and gap analysis across legacy applications, manual processes, data flows, and target-state capabilities.

  • Identify and document assumptions, dependencies, constraints, risks, unresolved decisions, and cross-system impacts.

  • Establish requirements baselines and identify material changes requiring additional analysis, approval, or scope review.

  • Ensure requirements are complete, testable, traceable, and sufficiently detailed before development and testing begin.

  • Support internal go-to-market and adoption strategies for AI-powered workflows, agentic experiences, and internal products that simplify employee work across enterprise platforms.

Business Process, Capability & Data Modeling

  • Model end-to-end business processes, workflows, system interactions, decision points, exception paths, manual controls, and service boundaries.

  • Use Enterprise Architect, Miro, Visio, or similar tools to maintain domain models, capability maps, swimlane diagrams, data-flow diagrams, system interaction diagrams, and data dictionaries.

  • Decompose large business processes into reusable capabilities and clearly defined functional responsibilities.

  • Document business data definitions, field-level requirements, reference data, mappings, ownership, validation rules, and data-quality expectations.

  • Maintain alignment across business-process models, requirements, solution designs, Jira stories, test cases, and Confluence documentation.

Functional & Solution Design

  • Collaborate with solution architects, developers, Product Owners, and SMEs to translate business requirements into practical and supportable solution designs.

  • Evaluate solution options based on business value, usability, scalability, security, compliance, integration, data, cost, and operational-support considerations.

  • Define functional behaviors for role-based access, approvals, alerts, escalations, audit history, document versioning, metadata, reporting, and exception management.

  • Develop decision tables, scenario matrices, and rule catalogs that make business logic explicit, reusable, testable, and auditable.

  • Define reconciliation and traceability requirements so system outputs can be tied to authoritative source data and approved business rules.

Workflow, Integration & System Analysis

  • Define workflows involving human tasks, approvals, automated processing, notifications, and completion criteria.

  • Support BPMN-based workflow design and orchestration platforms such as Camunda.

  • Translate business processes into integration requirements for APIs, events, services, legacy applications, middleware, and third-party platforms.

  • Document source and target systems, triggers, request/response behavior, payload structures, field mappings, validation rules, error handling, retry behavior, and reconciliation requirements.

  • Work with architects and developers to ensure API and event contracts accurately support approved business requirements.

  • Understand and document integration payload without responsibility for developing API endpoints or application code.

Data, Reporting & Analytics

  • Define data requirements, business definitions, mappings, ownership, quality expectations, retention needs, and reconciliation controls.

  • Partner with technical teams on source-to-target mappings, data pipelines, integration dependencies, and monitoring.

  • Support data profiling, cleansing, conversion planning, migration validation, reconciliation, and post-conversion verification.

  • Develop reports, dashboards, and analytics using Qlik Sense, Power BI, or similar visualization tools to support operational and leadership decision-making.

  • Identify requirement gaps, conflicting expectations, dependencies, and scope risks early to reduce downstream development and testing defects.

Testing, Validation & Release Readiness

  • Partner with QA engineers and business stakeholders to define test scenarios, business test cases, expected results, test-data requirements, and exception scenarios.

  • Support SIT, UAT, regression testing, reconciliation, parallel validation, and other business-validation activities.

  • Track defects, decisions, retesting, acceptance evidence, and unresolved risks through release readiness.

  • Support production-readiness reviews, deployment validation, post-implementation verification, and transition to application support.

Audit, Controls & Governance

  • Document business processes and system behavior in support of SOX, internal controls, security, compliance, and audit requirements.

  • Support development and maintenance of process narratives, control flows, system/data-flow documentation, and audit evidence.

  • Ensure documentation accurately identifies relevant systems, services, databases, jobs, interfaces, data movement, controls, and monitoring processes.

  • Support internal and external audit walkthroughs with complete, current, and traceable documentation.

Documentation, Communication & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Produce high-quality analysis and project artifacts and facilitate business validation and UAT activities.

  • Maintain accurate documentation in Jira, Confluence, Enterprise Architect, and other approved repositories.

  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to resolve ambiguity, facilitate decisions, and reduce delivery risk.

  • Collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams, including Global Licensing, Finance, Royalty Services, Accounting, Tax, Legal/Compliance, Patent Operations, IT Infrastructure, Information Security, and internal and external audit teams.

  • Support knowledge transfer, operational handoff, and ongoing documentation of implemented system behavior.
