Manager, Streaming Media Standards
This new role will make an important contribution to the growth of successful streaming media ecosystems for Dolby audio and video technologies. The role will drive the creation of appropriate standards and specifications to facilitate the use of Dolby technology within streaming media ecosystems such as Connected TV. It will also make a key contribution to identifying relevant standardisation activities and objectives, and to developing the industry relationships and partnerships to execute these activities successfully.
The role is based at Dolby European Headquarters in London and will represent Dolby mainly in European-based organisations focussing on streaming and next-generation broadcast applications, such as HbbTV and DTG.
The ideal candidate will combine a strong understanding of foundational streaming media technologies, familiarity with streaming media ecosystems, and perspective to see how technical details affect the big picture. Strong communication skills are also expected, and the candidate should show the potential to grow and manage strong relationships with other ecosystem stakeholders. It may suit a candidate with a streaming media architecture or technology background who is looking to move into a more market-facing role.
Key job functions
· Assess how standards can help to enable Dolby technology in identified streaming ecosystems e.g Connected TV. Contribute to defining Dolby strategy and objectives.
· Participate in certain standards groups and industry associations to work towards an identified business goal.
· Represent the Dolby position, seeking internal guidance from business owners and management where required
· Present Dolby input to industry discussions effectively and persuasively
· Provide streaming media ecosystem expertise in support of other team members engaging, for example, in regional specification activities
· Highlight issues that may have significance for the growth of an ecosystem and communicate internally to business, commercial partnerships and other stakeholders
· Build strong relationships with key streaming ecosystem stakeholders
· Identify further opportunities for Dolby technologies and communicate these internally. Contribute to the exploration of new business ideas with potential industry partners.
· Gather industry perspectives and represent these within Dolby.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate would demonstrate:
· At least 6-8 years of relevant experience in media streaming, broadcast, or related technology areas, and educated to at least BSc/BEng level or equivalent in Electronics, Media Technology or a similar subject.
· Good system-level understanding of foundational streaming media technologies e.g. HLS, DASH, MSE, DRM, ABR
· Familiarity with real-world implementation of streaming media architectures for connected TV, mobile or similar video applications
· Excellent written and spoken English-language communication for technical and non-technical topics.
· Good networking and relationship building skills to develop and build good relationships with both technical and commercial representatives
· Comfortable relating technical detail to market-level impact
· Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively as appropriate. Able to be effective in ambiguous environments.
· Ability to travel extensively – an estimated 30% of the time.
Desirable skills and background also include:
· Familiarity with streaming media architectures in Connected TV implementations (browsers, typical technology stacks)
· Familiarity with the organisation and processes of standards organisations and specification entities such as HbbTV, DVB, DTG, NorDig, 3GPP, ETSI.
· Understanding of related media technology including audio and video coding, media content workflows, digital broadcast delivery, eMBMS mobile delivery.
· Experience of driving complex, cross-functional projects or engagements
· Experience in explaining the relevance of new technologies to industry and public broadcasters.
· Proven ability to personally influence direction.
· International travel and work experience.
· Spoken German and/or French.
