Position Overview

 

We are looking for an experienced contract DevOps Engineer to join our platform engineering team. This senior-level contract role demands a multi-cloud expert with profound Kubernetes knowledge to architect, implement, and optimize complex infrastructure across diverse cloud environments. The ideal candidate will drive our multi-cloud strategy, ensuring seamless container orchestration and deployment workflows.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

1. Multi-Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Management

  • Design and maintain scalable, highly available infrastructure across AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and DigitalOcean.
  • Architect cloud-agnostic solutions that maximize portability and avoid vendor lock-in.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, Pulumi, and cloud-native tools.
  • Optimize cost efficiency across multiple cloud providers through strategic workload placement.
  • Design and implement multi-cloud disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.

 

2. Kubernetes & Container Orchestration Leadership

  •  Architect and manage production-grade Kubernetes clusters across multiple cloud environments.
  •  Design and implement multi-cluster, multi-cloud Kubernetes deployments.
  •  Manage Kubernetes distributions including EKS (AWS), AKS (Azure), GKE (GCP), OKE (OCI), and DOKS (DigitalOcean).
  •  Implement advanced Kubernetes patterns: operators, custom resources, admission controllers.
  •  Design service mesh architectures using Istio, Linkerd, or Consul Connect.
  •  Optimize cluster autoscaling, resource allocation, and workload scheduling.

3. Advanced CI/CD & GitOps

  • Design sophisticated CI/CD pipelines that deploy across multiple cloud environments.
  • Implement GitOps workflows using ArgoCD, Flux, or similar tools.
  • Create automated testing strategies for multi-cloud deployments.
  • Develop advanced deployment patterns: blue-green, canary, progressive delivery.
  • Build cross-cloud promotion pipelines with environment-specific configurations.

 

4. Monitoring & Observability

  • Implement unified monitoring across all cloud platforms using Prometheus, Grafana, and cloud-native tools.
  • Design distributed tracing solutions for multi-cloud microservices architectures.
  •  Establish comprehensive logging strategies using ELK Stack, Fluentd, and cloud logging services.
  • Create cross-cloud alerting and incident response workflows.
  • Implement chaos engineering practices to test multi-cloud resilience.

5. Security & Compliance

  • Implement zero-trust security models across all cloud environments.
  • Manage secrets, certificates, and access controls using HashiCorp Vault, cloud KMS, and Kubernetes secrets.
  • Ensure compliance across different cloud providers' security frameworks.
  • Implement network security policies and micro-segmentation.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability management.

 

6. Leadership & Strategic Planning

  • Lead technical architecture decisions for multi-cloud initiatives.
  • Mentor junior DevOps engineers on Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies.
  • Drive adoption of cloud-native best practices across development teams.
  • Participate in vendor evaluation and cloud provider selection processes.

 

Required Qualifications

 

Experience

  •  8+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Platform Engineering.
  •  6+ years of hands-on experience with multiple cloud platforms.
  •  5+ years of production Kubernetes experience across different environments.
  •  4+ years of experience leading technical projects and mentoring team members.
  •  3+ years of multi-cloud architecture and implementation experience.

  •  AWS: EKS, EC2, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, Lambda.
  •  Azure: AKS, Virtual Machines, Resource Manager, Azure DevOps.
  • Google Cloud Platform: GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud Build, IAM.
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure: OKE, Compute, Networking, Resource Manager.
  •  DigitalOcean: DOKS, Droplets, Load Balancers, Spaces.

Kubernetes & Containers

  •  Kubernetes: Deep expertise in cluster management, networking, storage, security.
  • Container Technologies: Docker, containerd, CRI-O, container registries.
  • Helm: Chart development, templating, repository management.
  • Service Mesh: Istio, Linkerd, Consul Connect.
  • Kubernetes Tools: kubectl, kustomize, operators, admission controllers.

Infrastructure & Automation

  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform (multi-cloud), Pulumi, cloud-native IaC tools.
  • CI/CD Platforms: Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Cloud Build.
  • GitOps: ArgoCD, Flux, Tekton.
  • Programming/Scripting: Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell, YAML/JSON.

 

Monitoring & Observability

  • Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, cloud-native monitoring solutions.
  • Logging: ELK Stack, Fluentd, cloud logging services.
  • Tracing: Jaeger, Zipkin, cloud tracing solutions.
  • APM: Datadog, New Relic, Dynatrace.

 

Additional Requirements

  • Deep understanding of networking concepts across different cloud providers.
  • Experience with multi-cloud networking solutions

The NY pay range for this contract position is $75 - $90 per hour, depending on experience.
