Summary Description      

Exciting opportunity for a Senior Field Application Engineer to provide technical support during pre-sales, integration, and post-sales of products and applications using by Dolby’s licensed technologies. The focus of this role is on automotive applications, but it is expected to include other consumer devices like TVs and set-top boxes as well. The primary objective of the role is to enable Dolby’s customers to develop and launch consumer devices using Dolby’s technologies and bring compelling Dolby-enabled products to the market. The immediate focus of this role is Dolby Atmos in cars, this means working with car manufacturers, Tier 1 automotive OEMs, and middleware/software makers.

 

The position is based in our office in Germany – either in Munich or Nuremberg.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Technical skills

    • Demonstrated understanding of Audio and Video technologies used in automotive applications. Ability to work with product development teams to enable the deployment of Dolby technologies in the automotive space (Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision).

    • Provide detailed systems-level support for Dolby Audio Technologies to Dolby’s existing and potential automotive and consumer electronics customers. Support and resolve issues regarding Dolby Technologies in product development and deployment, where necessary on-site.

    • Provide relevant technical analysis of the customer’s systems across In-vehicle- Infotainment, cabin tuning, software, and streaming services integration.

    • Understand customer hardware and software ecosystem to provide technical analysis and share this knowledge with Dolby’s product teams. The software ecosystem for automotive entertainment is becoming increasingly important – this includes OS (Android automotive for example), UI/UX, and Applications (including music, AV streaming, and games). Understanding this ecosystem is highly desirable.

    • Provide pre-sales support, technical training to customers, and support to accounting managers and marketing teams as required.

    • Manage schedules, project plans as well as documents like project scope, a summary of learning, and regular feedback to the development team. Familiarity with tools such as Confluence, JIRA, Salesforce, and project management tools is desired.

  • Stakeholder management

    • Work closely with the European account management team. In conjunction with the rest of the Sales group, evangelize Dolby technologies to the automotive and consumer electronics market.

    • Ability to interface with senior levels of engineering departments at customers and potential customers. Establish and/or maintain customer relationships.

    • Manage the day-to-day communication on technical issues, communicating with Dolby’s Engineering team and following up on outstanding technical and licensing issues both internally and with customers.

    • Support Dolby’s marketing activities with technical information and attend tradeshows and similar events.

 

Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent in Science, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology.

  • Demonstrable detailed hands-on experience working in automotive entertainment, consumer electronics, or silicon providers.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in at least one of the below is highly desirable:

  1. Android and/or iOS.

  2. Signal processing, Acoustics, and cabin tuning.

  3. programming and scripting.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential; written and verbal interactions with customers individually and in groups are a major part of the job.

  • Work experience and an existing network in the automotive industry are extremely desirable.

  • Good command of English is a requirement, and knowledge of other German and European languages is desirable.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to maintain high standards and results while working independently.

  • Willingness to travel (approx. 30% of the time on average), mostly within Europe, and a willingness to work outside normal office hours, when required.

 

The ideal candidate would also have in-depth experience working for an automotive entertainment provider, a consumer electronics manufacturer, a silicon supplier, or an independent software vendor.
