The Americas Commercial Partnerships team is looking for a passionate partner/ customer facing audio systems engineer with the expertise and commitment to work closely with our account managers and our device OEM partners on integrating Dolby’s latest audio technologies as we execute our multi-year goals in enabling and delivering Dolby Audio, Dolby Atmos and new entertainment experiences to millions of consumers around the world.

 

As a Staff Field Applicatoins Engineer (Auto), you will learn to champion and execute the integration of the latest Dolby audio DCX (Dolby Car Experience) technologies and playback SDK’s (System Development kits) and serve as a customer facing technical lead and direct liaison between the Commercial Partnership account managers and Dolby’s automotive partners. In addition to system integration the role requires performing custom tuning for different listening environments to provide optimum audio performance for different types and models of vehicles.  This position also requires working with content distribution partners, who are incorporating the latest Dolby encoding technologies for music in their content services for distribution to vehicles.

In this role, you will learn to manage multiple partner projects with their own set of challenges and timelines, learn to anticipate and prevent potential problems and leveraging your own skills and internal resources.  The ideal candidate should have some experience with app integration and audio tuning in automotive or consumer devices such as Smart Speakers, Soundbars, Televisions, Set Top Boxes, Stream Media Players, Laptops, and mobile devices.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Learn to interact with the Commercial Partnership partners, licenses, and platform partners and to conduct the business of technology licensing using a diplomatic, professional, and service-oriented approach, including written correspondence and face-to-face meetings and technology demonstrations.
  • Through an extensive, long term focused training, become a technical expert in specific areas related to Dolby DCX technologies.
  • Provide detailed integration support and deep technical knowledge to our automotive partners who are integrating Dolby technologies into their vehicles as well as supporting our music distribution partners, integrating Dolby encoding technologies.
  • Understand customer requirements, delivering technical presentations, technology demonstrations, and promoting the value proposition of technologies to customers.  Be the technical lead for sales-orientated technical presentations and demonstrations to customers, technical staff, and senior management
  • Take the lead in providing partner feedback on Dolby technologies, broadening the knowledge through understanding technical trends and objectives. Work with technical groups within Dolby to resolve customer issues and improve Dolby tools and deliverables. Help define and improve integration and testing processes
  • Partner and interact with various groups within Dolby, be the voice of our partners, in order to resolve technical challenges and deliver a resolution on behalf of Dolby enabled ecosystems.  Projects will require specialized technical knowledge of Dolby DCX and SDKs.  
  • Interface with Dolby Engineering and Marketing to provide input and suggestions for new products and features, based on customer needs and competitive information. Leverage customer meetings to gather intelligence about customers’ product plans, product requirements, competitive offering and approaches and share data with relevant internal Dolby teams.
  • Work with Marketing as required providing input and requirements for the design, development and execution of presentations and technical demonstrations tools to effectively present and sell Dolby technologies to customers.
  • Attend trade shows, seminars, conferences, and educational events to keep abreast of industry developments, promote and demonstrate Dolby technologies and examine the potential of new markets for Dolby technologies.

 

Requirements:

  • BSEE or similar (Physics, Engineering Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, etc.)  Experience with Android very desirable.
  • It is vital that applicant can quickly and thoroughly learn a variety of technical topics in a short time.
  • Experience coding in C and/or C++. Expertise with one or more scripting languages (PERL, Python, BASH, etc.) is expected.
  • Experience working with streaming technologies and protocols including DASH, HLS, HEVC, MPEG-DASH, MP4 containers and ASF
  • Experience must include exposure to Digital Signal Processing and at least three of the following areas:
    • Software development
    • Automotive audio system integration and tuning
    • App development
    • Streaming Media or mobile development experience
    • Android and Android TV
    • Audio Codec experience
    • Audio tuning experience
    • Working knowledge of system development kits
    • System engineering and integration
    • Technology licensing
    • Testing professional electronic products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, team building skills, plus strong work, and business ethics.
  • Self-motivated, self-assured person with aptitude to interface with personnel from highest to lowest levels of customer engineering organizations
  • Position will require 25% to 40% domestic travel.

 

Desired:

  • Experience with automotive audio and the automotive industry
  • Exposure to Perforce or Git, Jira, and Salesforce
  • Experience with Python, Perl, and Bash.
  • Audio system experience.
  • Knowledge of Dolby's products, technologies, and customers.
