Dolby is looking for a talented Research Engineer with a strong passion for video compression and transmission to join our  Advanced Video R&D team. The ideal candidate must have hands-on coding experience in C/C++ and deep knowledge of video compression, transmission systems, and standards.

You will:

Define the architecture and roadmap for compression and transmission of light-field video.
Define algorithms and methods to optimize current encoding and transmission techniques/standards Partner with other teams to fit in codec and transmission logic in the larger end to end chain
Analyze existing quality metrics and propose new metrics if needed to analyze compression quality. Partner with experts in ancillary fields to establish end-to-end implementations in immersive video with consideration for video quality and latency tradeoffs
Implement and demonstrate architectural concepts including documentation outlining design choices Share research findings in reports, make presentations to senior management
Refine algorithms and software to meet real-time processing constraints


Minimum Qualifications

Master’s or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field
Strong background in image/video processing, compression, video transmission/streaming

Experience and working understanding of video codecs (e.g. MPEG-2, H.264, H.265, AV1/AV2, VP9)
Working knowledge of FFMPEG code base
Proficiency in C/C++ and Matlab
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Team player, able to work with colleagues in research and software development fields


Additional Qualifications

Experience with OpenGL and OpenCV is a strong plus

Experience with CODEC HW and SDKs is a strong plus
