The Advanced Technology Group (ATG) is the research division of the company. ATG’s mission is to look ahead, deliver insights, and innovate technological solutions that will fuel Dolby’s continued growth. Our researchers have a broad range of expertise related to computer science and electrical engineering, such as AI/ML, algorithms, digital signal processing, audio engineering, image processing, computer vision, data science & analytics, distributed systems, cloud, edge & mobile computing, computer networking, and IoT.

What is the internship program?
The Dolby U internship program offers impactful, project-based work experience in a collaborative, creative environment where you work with industry leaders. It is a great way to get exposure to cool technologies, hone your skills, and build a pathway toward full-time opportunities with Dolby.
Dolby Laboratories is looking for a self-motivated, creative, and talented individual interested in applying their theoretical and practical expertise to the development of new technologies. The position is in the Big Idea Innovation Team – within the Advanced Technology Group of Dolby Laboratories. It will involve working in close collaboration with other research scientists/engineers/designers in multiple locations.
Responsibilities
As a member of the Big Ideas Team, your role will involve creating novel solutions to enable new features, products, and user experiences that never existed before. We are working on a diverse set of projects in domains such as Immersive Media, Generative AI, Live Sports, Wellness, AR/VR, Biomedical Eng, Human-AI interaction, etc.

Eligibility
Working towards a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a multidisciplinary degree (Cognitive Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Neuroscience, HCI, etc); recent grads within six months of graduation are also eligible to apply. Must be available to work full-time, Monday to Friday, for three months starting in May or June 2025.
What are we looking for in candidates?
Along with solid technical skills, candidates should demonstrate creativity, problem-solving and analytical abilities, good communication and collaboration skills, a curiosity for how and why things work as they do, and technology and market trends.
Qualifications
- Working towards a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a multidisciplinary degree, e.g., Cognitive Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Neuroscience, Human-Computer Interaction, etc).
- Ability to test hypotheses via rapid prototyping and rigorous experimentation
- Adept in applying creative solutions across multimodal and multidisciplinary fields towards a big picture vision.
- Comfortable with navigating the uncertainties of early-stage product development
- Strong proficiency in coding (Python, mobile/web app development)
- Experience with training, deploying, and finetuning generative AI models.
- Experience in prompt engineering
- First-author publications at peer-reviewed top conferences
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented work ethic.

ELIGIBILITY
Working towards a PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering , or a related field; recent grads who are within 6 months of graduation are also eligible to apply. Must be available to work full-time Monday – Friday for 3 months between May/June 2025 – December 2025.

The San Francisco/Bay Area base hourly range for this internship position is $57/hr and can vary if outside of this location. Our hourly ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific hourly range and perks and benefits for your location during the hiring process.
