Dolby Cloud Media Solutions (CMS) Engineering Group is seeking an experienced architect to drive architecture design activities for our new Dolby SaaS offering for media streaming services. As Media System Architect, you will help design systems to deliver optimized media (video and audio) experiences across many client platforms (TVs, browsers, mobile devices, OTT devices) to improve QoE (Quality of Experience) leading to enhanced user engagement. Responsibilities:

· Translate media-focused applications/feature requirements into robust, highly available, secure, cost-effective, and scalable architecture designs

 

· Effectively collaborate with engineering, research, business, product management, and customers to plan and productize new applications, and drive enhancements to the existing architecture

 

· Architect solutions for advanced development/proof-of-concept and prototyping activities for new technologies and features for OTT streaming applications

 

· Provide guidance and support for implementation and testing efforts by the engineering team, including client platforms/SDK, backend systems, platform, QA, and SRE teams

 

· Document and present architecture design options to stakeholders and drive decisions

 

· Track media streaming industry and tech trends, and drive continuous improvements to system design and architecture

 

Requirements:

· 5+ years of experience in architecting large-scale, distributed, highly available, secure, and fault-tolerant media streaming applications/services

 

· A solid understanding of the streaming media ecosystem, including origin servers, CDNs, backend services, playback clients

 

· Strong technical knowledge and experience with video streaming technology, including ABR (HLS, MPEG-DASH) encoding and packaging, DRM, ad insertion, analytics, quality benchmarking, and QoE

 

· Deep knowledge of client ecosystem and platforms/plyers including Android (ExoPlayer), Apple (AVPlayer), JS/Web Client (video.js, hls.js), Smart TVs, Set-top boxes, Chromecast, Roku, and other OTT devices

 

· Hands-on experience with AWS platform’s common features & services (ex. S3, EC2, ALB, IAM, Lambda) and microservices-based architectures

 

· Passionate about supporting product development process – from concept to implementation, and driving continuous architecture improvements

 

· Demonstrated ability to navigate and learn a complicated set of technologies spanning multiple disciplines

 

· Ability to synthesize concepts into a long-term architectural vision, while adopting a short-term agile mindset.

 

· Excellent technical leadership, communication, & collaboration skills

 

· Strong documentation and presentation skills. Ability to create compelling documents, effectively present ideas to key stakeholders, and influence without authority

 

· B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science/Engineering or Electronics Engineering or equivalent industry experience.

 

Nice-to-haves

· Experience with a streaming media analytics platform such as Conviva

· Hands-on experience with configuration and/or performance tracking of CDNs (Content Delivery Networks)

· Familiar with multi-Cloud architectures (ex. AWS, GCP, Azure, Alibaba)

· Experience with big data platforms and ML (Machine Learning) applications

· Familiarity with a DRM standard (FairPlay, WideVine, and PlayReady, etc.)
