The successful candidate will be a self-starter and eager learner who is responsible for supporting Dolby’s technology licensing program, product development, and consulting services. The position interacts extensively with senior management and requires mature judgment and the ability to work effectively as a contributing member of the team with minimal direction.

 

The Commercial Counsel will advise internal Dolby clients on a broad variety of legal issues, focusing on transactional matters. The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial, detail-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills, capable of driving progress on key initiatives while maintaining good relations with stakeholders across the company.  This position is based in the US, preferably in one of Dolby’s US office hubs: San Franciscos or Los Angeles.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Dolby product and business teams on legal issues related to new and existing products and services, including SaaS, API, and other cloud-based services
  • Advise Dolby’s developer relations and social media teams on legal compliance, intellectual property protection, and adequate documentation of promotional relationships
  • Lead transactional interactions with large partners in the interactivity, streaming and entertainment industry
  • Draft, negotiate, and finalize legal agreements related to all of the foregoing, including varied license agreements, service agreements, developer terms, and vendor agreements
  • Coordinate as necessary with Dolby’s privacy, open source, tax, finance, trade compliance, and other subject matter experts
  • Participate in internal working groups or taskforces as legal representative

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree and admitted to practice in at least one US jurisdiction (CA preferred)
  • At least 3-4 years of transactional legal experience at a law firm and/or in-house
  • Expertise on issues related to the development and launch of products/services in the technology space
  • Familiarity with key regulatory and industry issues in the marketing and technology product/service spaces
  • Significant experience negotiating and drafting large intellectual property transactions
  • Comfortable as the primary legal adviser to multiple product and operational groups
  • Extremely high work quality and precision – able to resolve time sensitive issues with a high degree of precision and exhibit strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Self-initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience supporting SaaS, API, and other cloud-based businesses
  • Experience working in a distributed team structure across different geographical locations
