This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new Global People Relations (Employee Relations) team at Dolby’s San Francisco headquarters. This role will focus on supporting our AMER region. You will be responsible for a coaching and advising leaders, managers, and employees on a wide range of complex Employee Relations (ER) matters including performance management, workplace investigations, involuntary terminations, and accommodations. You will also take a proactive role in mitigating employment risks and preserving the Dolby culture by fostering fairness, and positive and respectful employee experiences.



  • Assess, diagnose, and coach leaders, managers and employees through complex employee relations issues, relative to: performance management; workplace investigations and fact-finding; involuntary terminations; accommodations; policy exceptions; workforce reductions
  • Provide expertise and case management of ER issues, from initial intake to resolution, received from HR call center, managers, People Business Partners (PBPs) and other employees, for assigned client groups.
  • Deliver expertise, consultation, guidance, and coaching to managers and PBPs to address employee behavior and performance concerns; provide guidance and assist with the development and delivery of appropriate feedback or corrective/disciplinary actions
  • Interpret and apply understanding of corporate policies and practices, Dolby principles and culture, and employment law, to provide advice and guidance on employee relations cases
  • Lead ER investigations to include gathering and analyzing facts, applying relevant laws, policies, and past practice to reach conclusions and recommend management action. Partners with internal Employment Attorneys and other partners, as necessary
  • Track, report, and analyze case trends utilizing ER case management system
  • Create and execute influence strategies that persuade key stakeholders to take action that will advance shared interest and business goals
  • Operate and advise in the "gray" areas. Understands client motivations and business pain points; leverage inputs to influence solid business decisions
  • Create resources, templates, and tools for leaders and managers to support adoption of the Performance Improvement Framework, and other ER practices



  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience required. HR certification and/or advanced degree desired
  • Minimum of 6 years of broad HR Generalist experience with 2 years directly managing complex employee relations issues, preferably in a global technology company within a centralized ER model
  • Previous HR Business Partner, employment legal, or management experience a plus
  • Deep experience providing guidance and counsel in complex ER matters, advising, and influencing across all levels of the organization
  • Exemplary written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Broad knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Change management, experience in building a centralized, shared service ER model highly desired
  • Some domestic travel may be required
