This position is an optomechanical engineering role working on Cinema Technology.  The primary function of an opto-mechanical engineer, specific to this role, is to understand and optimize the optical elements along with the mechanical design, process, and assembly methodologies. Expectation of the candidate will include clear qualitative and quantitative design; as well as process feedback on image quality, thermal, mechanical performance, manufacturing and serviceability considerations.

Our ideal candidate has a strong fundamental engineering background, prototyping skills, 3D CAD capability, and experience designing and building advanced development proof-of-concept systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design optomechanical equipment, subsystems and develop Proof-of-Concept test platforms.
  • Apply rigorous engineering and tolerance techniques to high precision design requirements in the areas such as Optics, Mechanics, and Electromechanics.
  • Analyze, design and validate complex optical systems for thermal stability and structural robustness.
  • Develop testing procedures and qualifications for mounting components and sub-assemblies.
  • Review and generate tolerance stacks based on CAD layout.
  • Apply knowledge of rapid prototyping techniques (Machining, 3D printing, etc.)
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) techniques and associated metrology such as CMM, OMM and interferometry.
  • Operating in dynamic and collaborative product development environment with internal operations team and external manufacturing partners.
  • Generate and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECO) on an as-needed basis.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience and a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or similar technical field.
  • In depth knowledge of mechanical design principles to create products and test platforms.
  • Direct design experience with precision opto-mechanical products such as lasers, interferometers, fiber optics collimators or optical systems.
  • 5+ years’ experience working on ME designs in optics, mechanism, or mechatronics designs
  • Proficiency in using ME CAD tools and associated design management tools (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Ability to read and create GD&T drawings.
  • Proficiency with optical design principles and ray tracing software (Zemax or equivalent)
  • Proficiency with FEA tools such as ANSYS and COMSOL
  • Expertise in one or more of the following technical areas: kinematic design, optics, adhesives, vacuum, and precision machining.
  • Self-starter able to think and act independently to translate general objectives into tangible results, with a track record of delivering successful designs on schedule.
