As a Senior Staff Architect, you will be responsible for the long-term technical design and architecture of our Dolby.io media processing service. You will be part of a global team that is providing media processing capabilities to developers via APIs and SDKs. You will work directly with the engineering teams architecting solutions to add new functionality, improve resilience, and building a scalable service. Your work will influence the direction of the product by demonstrating what is possible to key stakeholders.

This key role is an ideal opportunity for a strong engineer with strong reasoning skills, a real passion for technology, a deep understanding of the principles that underpin good service design, and demonstrated experience in successfully driving such designs through a complete development process.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a long-term vision that will ensure we have a best-in-class media processing service. This vision should consider resilience, scalability, and quality.
  • Partner with the engineering team to architect solutions on the current service to work towards the vision.
  • Keep up to date with industry best practices, related technologies and brief key stakeholders about the impact or potential improvements for our service.
  • Partner with Dolby product and engineering teams to influence their direction to achieve the desired long-term outcomes.
  • Create proof of concepts and demonstrators to illustrate the options we have for our service.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to all levels of the organization.
  • Represent the team and Company during internal/external customer interactions.
  • Efficiently handle ambiguity and multiple competing priorities at work.
  • Contribute ideas for new technologies, tools, or methods and serve as a conduit for new technology development.
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise to other team members and product/marketing management


To be Successful

You will need to develop a long-term architectural vision for our service and work with product and engineering to implement it. You will have a background in a wide range of technologies around cloud services, media processing, and DSP including codecs. You have excellent communication skills and a high level of motivation, initiative, and self-organization.


Other Essential Skills Include

  • BSEE, MSEE, or equivalent with at least 10+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
  • Deep experience architecting cloud services
  • Proficiency working with AWS (knowledge of GCS and Azure is beneficial)
  • Proficiency in developing software in C/C++, Python, JavaScript (Node.js) and other languages.
  • Experience working in Agile/SCRUM environments.
  • Exposure to machine learning.
  • Experience working within cross-functional, fast-paced teams and coordinating efforts to solve problems and develop innovative products.
  • An innate interest to stay abreast of new technologies, market trends, changing customer needs and the strategies of competitors.
