As a Staff CAD Systems Engineer, you will create an environment where hardware, research, and software development teams can deliver new Dolby technologies and experiences. This role is responsible for system level management and technical support for Dolby’s CAD, EDA, FPGA, and simulation toolchains used by engineering teams worldwide. You will develop custom integrations to optimize workflows for hardware engineers. You will also interface with EDA vendors to enable production toolchains that satisfy engineering needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and support Dolby's system level CAD environment for all hardware engineering information flow during the design and development process
  • Manage product document management (PDM) systems such as EPDM and PDM and its integration with PLM, ERP and MRP systems
  • Independently analyze the existing engineering processes and enhance through automation, scripts, and/or modifying of engineering standards
  • Oversee deployment of new software packages, making certain compatibility issues are resolved beforehand and all users are upgraded successfully
  • Design and roll out enhancements to the engineering design process (FPGA, schematic capture, layout, mechanical, etc.) to improve the overall EDA environment
  • Partner with users to standardize engineering and design procedures to ensure consistency in techniques and rapid adoption of industry best practices
  • Serve as Dolby’s liaison with our vendors to resolve software issues, organize trainings, schedule evaluations, and negotiate tool bundles
  • Effectively lead acquisition of new tools for hardware engineering and simulation workflows
  • Maintain license services for engineering tools
  • Mentor staff and provide guidance to individuals regarding CAD usage, functionality, and best practices

Education and Experience

  • BS or MS degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of professional experience with Mentor, Cadence, and Altium EDA tools
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the use of PC-based EDA systems and associated peripherals
  • Experience using simulation tools such as hardware language simulators and signal integrity software
  • Proficiency with scripting/programming using Python, Perl, or C
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively, explain technical information, and present recommendations to management
  • Understanding of industry trends in the use and outlook of various EDA design formats
  • Knowledge of MCAD and mechanical simulation tools (COMSOL, Ansys, CFD) is a plus
