As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and directly contributing to the software design effort that will enable the cloud media processing and analytics services created by Dolby. You will be part of an R&D organization based in San Francisco, working on a high-impact strategic program that operates in an internal startup environment. This is an amazing opportunity for a strong engineer with good knowledge of Video Streaming, OTT workflow, and software development to work in a dynamic environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Bring Video Streaming expertise to develop and launch new cloud-based media processing APIs

• Design and develop transcoding workflows that use various decoding, encoding, and packaging algorithms to transcode media from one format to the other

• Design solutions for both live (streaming) and file-based workflows

• Design and develop test automation systems to ensure the video content generated meets Dolby’s quality expectation

• Close collaboration with the video research teams to identify new or efficient algorithms to be used in our APIs

• Performance evaluation of the workflow solutions, to ensure the solutions offered have a competitive advantage over the competition

 

To be Successful

 

You will be involved with designing and developing cloud-based, low-latency, high-quality transcoding and composition workflows. This position will also involve the cutting edge development of new video processing and analytics technology which will be deployed as a cloud-based service. You will partner with researchers and engineers to create engineering designs, specifications, prototypes, and full implementations of video processing and streaming technology. The ideal candidate will have a background in video technology, video systems, OTT streaming, and excellent communication skills with a high level of motivation, initiative, and self-organization.

 

 Essential Skills Include:

• BS, MS or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant media software engineering experience

• Proficiency in device and web player experience

• Proficiency in Media Streaming Formats like HLS or DASH

• Proficiency with server-side languages like python, JavaScript, and TypeScript

• Working level competency with CDN and cloud platforms (Google Cloud, AWS, Azure)

• Experience working in a fast-paced, results-oriented, agile environment focused on fielding complex signal processing solutions

• Experience working with code versioning tools (e.g. Git, Perforce)

 

Nice to have skills :

•Knowledge of OTT video delivery pipelines

•Knowledge of Video Codecs (H.264, H.265, VP8/VP9)

•Knowledge of HDR video
