Dolby Korea team is a local support team facing our industry's key customers and reporting to the San Francisco HQ team. We are looking for a Staff Field Application Engineer (hereinafter referred to as FAE) responsible for providing engineering and technical support to assist the sales team with closing new design wins and supporting existing customers / programs. The FAE will do this by understanding our technology portfolio, providing detailed technical guidance to our customers, and helping them understand how Dolby’s audio and video technologies can enhance the value proposition of their products. The FAE will be the primary “technical voice of the customer” within Dolby for assigned accounts. You will be managing multiple projects with different workflows, anticipating and preventing potential problems, and leveraging your own skills and internal resources to deliver the ideal architecture to our partners.  

 

The successful candidate will have a BS degree or higher in a technical field and a broad understanding of home theater, broadcast, and multimedia entertainment products, technologies, and markets. S/he will also grasp the role played by Dolby’s offerings in these areas.  The most competitive candidates will have detailed technical knowledge and experience in broadcast, CE, PC, and related markets; close familiarity with planning, design, manufacture, and/or QA testing of these or similar products; and excellent communication skills in both Korean and English. Also strongly desirable is fluency with relevant standards such as those related to ATSC and DVB broadcast, MPEG program and transport streams; S/PDIF, and HDMI interfaces; and other material of interest such as HE-AAC, MPEG1L2, DVD, Blu-ray, and similar.  It is not necessary to be an expert in all of these things. Essential Job Functions:

  • Correspond and collaborate extensively to provide technical support to licensee companies by email, by phone, and in person during product planning, design, development, manufacture, and sale. Escalate cases and customer issues to other departments as needed.
  • Technical support for customers to adopt Dolby technology – designing, integration, testing, verification, audio tuning, follow up customer/market issues for their products (TV / CE / STB / Soundbar / AVR, etc).
  • Work with cross-functional teams across Dolby as the “voice of the customer” providing feedback on and driving improvements to Dolby’s licensing deliverables. Leverage customer meetings to gather intelligence about customers’ product plan, product requirements and share with relevant Dolby teams.
  • Support pre-sales activity delivering technical presentations, demonstration of new products, promoting the value proposition of Dolby technologies to customers.
  • Occasional international travel may be required.

 

 

Education, Skills, Abilities, and Experience Required:

  • Absolute, unwavering, and unconditionally honest conscientiousness, even when nobody is watching. This is more important than anything else.
  • BSEE or MSEE or similar (Physics, Engineering Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, etc.) and 5-10 years of experience in consumer audio/video or related fields.  We are interested in people who are interested in us, so do not worry too much about years of experience.  If you like this job description, send us a resume.
  • Useful experience can include expertise / knowledge / familiarity with several of the following areas:
    • home theater and multimedia systems,
    • Experience with acoustical testing / audio quality tuning
    • equipment and technologies;
    • ATSC and/or DVB broadcast standards as well as technologies and standards related to other terrestrial, cable, and satellite broadcast systems;
    • automotive audio and entertainment;
    • multimedia interfaces such as HDMI, Firewire, DLNA, etc.
    • audio/video hardware design;
    • audio/video test and measurement;
    • IPTV and STB/DMA
    • analog and digital circuitry;
    • manufacturing and related processes;
    • audio and/or video DSP;
    • perceptual coders;
    • loudspeaker and transducer design or test/measurement;
    • embedded systems;
    • software development;
    • testing and quality assurance;
    • audio signal processing;
    • Audio on Bluetooth or WiFi;
    • Media transmission/distribution through ISO based media format and adaptive streaming
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Korean and English.
  • Ability to quickly understand complex technical and/or business issues and explain the same to technical and non-technical personnel without resorting to big words or complex grammatical structures.
  • Ability to develop strong business relationship with key decision makers within the Dolby customers.
  • Customer-focused with strong service orientation, strong problem-solving skill.

 

 

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience on direct customer support or pre-sales support activity.
  • Knowledge of Dolby’s ecosystem, products, business and its customers.
  • High level or detailed knowledge of SOC design.
  • C/C++, python coding skills.
  • Knowledge of music, audio/video production, recording engineering, broadcast engineering, film audio, home theater, or acoustics desirable.
  • Experience in Jira and Salesforce.
  • Knowledge of mobile products and applications
  • Experience on broadcast, studio (mixing, post production, etc)
