Dolby Korea team is a local support team facing our industry's key customers and reporting to the San Francisco HQ team.  We are looking for a Staff Field Application Engineer (FAE) responsible for providing engineering and technical support to assist the sales team with closing new design wins and supporting existing customers / programs. The FAE will do this by understanding our technology portfolio, providing detailed technical guidance to our customers, and helping them understand how Dolby’s mobile audio and video technologies can enhance the value proposition of their products. The FAE will be the primary “technical voice of the customer” within Dolby for assigned accounts. You will be managing multiple projects with different workflows, anticipating and preventing potential problems, and leveraging your own skills and internal resources to deliver the ideal architecture to our partners.

 

The successful candidate will have a BS or MS degree in a technical field and a broad understanding of mobile entertainment products, technologies, and markets. S/he will also grasp the role played by Dolby’s offerings in these areas. The most competitive candidates will have detailed technical knowledge and experience in Mobile, CE, or PC markets; close familiarity with planning, design, development, manufacture, and/or QA testing of these or similar products; demonstrated knowledge of audio technology, Android and its audio framework, mobile development environment, and embedded systems; expert debugging skill; and advanced communication skills in both Korean and English.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Correspond and collaborate extensively to provide technical support to licensee companies by email, by phone, and in person during product planning, design, development, manufacture, and sales. Escalate cases and customer issues to other departments as needed.
  • Technical support for customers to adopt Dolby technology – designing, integration, testing, verification, audio tuning, debugging technical issues on their mobile products. Fine tuning audio quality on different mobile products to meet both Dolby and customer’s requirement.
  • Work with cross-functional teams across Dolby as the “voice of the customer” providing feedback on and driving improvements to Dolby’s licensing deliverables. Leverage customer meetings to gather intelligence about customers’ product plan, product requirements and share with relevant Dolby teams.
  • Support pre-sales activity delivering technical presentations, demonstration of new products, promoting the value proposition of Dolby technologies to customers.
  • Occasional international travel is required (1-4 weeks / yr)

 

Education, Skills, Abilities, and Experience Required:

  • Absolute, unwavering, and unconditionally honest conscientiousness, even when nobody is watching. This is more important than anything else.
  • BSEE or MSEE or similar (Physics, Engineering Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, etc.) and 5-10 years of experience in consumer audio/video or related fields.  We are interested in people who are interested in us, so do not worry too much about years of experience.  If you like this job description, send us a resume.
  • Useful experience includes expertise / knowledge / familiarity with any (not all) of the following areas:
    • audio/video hardware/software design;
    • mobile products and applications;
    • mobile AP BSP experiences: ARM, Qaulcomm, Exynos, Intel, etc;
    • porting audio codec (HEAAC, MP3, AC3, etc) into different OS, integrating 3rd party audio solutions, testing and debugging, audio tuning; developing audio codecs or pre/post processing into embedded systems;
    • multimedia system in encoding and decoding, muxing and demuxing, various container formats (MKV, MP4, TS, etc);
    • audio/video HW driver development;
    • audio acoustics, sound system and signal processing knowledge;
    • deep debugging skills on mobile platform: ADB, JTAG, gdb, systrace, ftrace, perf
    • developing multimedia system on Android with Audioflinger, OMX Codec, relevant Android APIs;
    • Android build and development: Git, Gerrit
    • audio/video test and measurement;
    • analog and digital circuitry; 
    • perceptual coders;
    • loudspeaker and transducer design and test/measurement;
    • multimedia interfaces such as HDMI, Firewire, DLNA, etc.;
    • testing and quality assurance;
    • audio on Bluetooth or WiFi.
  • Some level of programming language skills (C/C++, Java/Android, Python) is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Korean and English.  (“Communication” is more important than perfection.)
  • Ability to quickly understand complex technical and/or business issues and explain them to technical and non-technical personnel without using big words or complicated grammar.
  • Ability to develop strong business relationship with key decision makers within the Dolby customers.
  • Customer-focused with strong service orientation, strong problem-solving skill.

 

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience on direct customer support or pre-sales support activity.
  • Knowledge of Dolby’s ecosystem, products, business and its customers.
  • Knowledge of music, audio/video production, recording engineering, broadcast engineering, film audio, home theater, or acoustics is desirable.
  • Experience in Jira and Salesforce.
