At Dolby, IP is an integral part of our business and we’re looking for someone who’s passionate about all things patents to join our team! The ideal candidate will be a qualified patent attorney or agent with an entrepreneurial spirit looking to focus on business development.  This role would concentrate on identifying emerging technologies, use-cases and market trends - especially for standardized technology in the entertainment and communications industries - creating new opportunities for the development, acquisition and licensing of standards-essential patents.

 

Based in our Seoul office, this role reports into our Director of IP Business Development.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Identify emerging technologies, standards, use-cases and market trends creating new opportunities for research and development, contributions to standards and the development, acquisition and licensing of standards-essential patents, especially in the entertainment and communications industries
  • Conduct patent landscaping, financial modelling and patent valuations, analyzing third-party patents and standards documents
  • Manage domestic and foreign external brokers supporting patent acquisition activities
  • Conduct due diligence and other support in negotiations and agreements related to patent acquisitions
  • Support in the development of new patent licensing programs, advising on royalty structures and financial models
  • Collaborate with internal technical, standards, legal, business and finance stakeholders
  • International travel

 

Education, Skills, Abilities, and Experience Required:

  • Patent attorney or agent, preferably with a technical background in digital signal processing
  • Experience in patent exploitation and related transactions, including patent acquisitions
  • Experience with standards bodies such as ETSI, MPEG or 3GPP is desirable
  • Proactive and go getter attitude with ability to work with minimal direction
  • Proficient in Excel with strong financial modelling and presentation skills
