The successful candidate will be an experienced IP attorney or licensing executive, responsible for negotiating licenses for Dolby’s global patent portfolios. He or she must have substantial experience negotiating international technology licenses, with a track record of meeting or exceeding company goals. Job functions include helping develop and execute strategies for growing and expanding Dolby’s worldwide patent licensing programs and licensee base. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, enjoy operating within a collaborative team environment and be adept at analyzing market data. Experience with Excel and Salesforce is a plus. Although not required, engineering, technology or computer science experience is valuable, as is familiarity with standards-essential patents and patent pools.
This position will be located in Shenzhen OR Beijing and will report to the Director of Patent Licensing in our San Francisco Office.
Responsibilities
- Negotiate patent license agreements
- Help develop and execute strategies for growing and expanding Dolby’s worldwide patent licensing programs and licensee base
- Assume ownership of strategic customer accounts in China, maintaining and developing relations with key decision makers and influencers and a deep understanding of licensee perspectives, creating and maintaining excellence in the overall customer relationship
- Collaborate with internal litigation team to develop and support enforcement actions
- Collaborate with internal technical, legal and business stakeholders
- Assist in financial forecasting, directing ongoing engagements to meet or exceed financial targets
- Ensure the status of licensing discussions is complete and up to date in the CRM system
- Provide such other patent, licensing and intellectual property support as may be required
Skills and Education
- 8-10+ years of experience, as an IP licensing attorney in a top-tier law firm or as a licensing executive working in house
- Sufficient technical and legal expertise to understand patents, license agreements and claim charts, with the ability to present a high-level summary of our patents and contributions to industry standards
- Deep understanding of negotiation and litigation strategies and tactics
- Experience developing and strengthening external business relationships and partnerships
- Excellent English and Mandarin writing and communication skills
- Self-initiative and ability to work with a minimum of direction to meet targets and deadlines
- Superior organization and project management skills
- Interpersonal savvy, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels
- Must demonstrate trust and credibility
- Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications
- Strong academic credentials
Additional Desired Qualifications
- Member of the China Bar
- Experience in global intellectual property licensing and multinational litigation
- Experience working at multinational organizations
- Experience with standards bodies, standards-essential patents, and/or patent pools
- Engineering, Technology, and/or Computer Science background and/or admission to one or more Patent bars
