POSITION OVERVIEW
The Supplier Manufacturing/Quality Engineer is responsible for the audit and enforcement of all factory processes (SMT through FATP) that impact Dolby Product quality, providing overall oversight of product quality practices at Dolby’s contract manufacturing sites. As the primary product quality liaison with supply partners, the M/SQE leads and ensures production and quality requirements are communicated and understood, resolves quality concerns related to the supply chain, conducts supplier audits and issues/drives SCARs to closure. During NPI, the SQE provides DFx feedback to the project team and supports build validation activities (EVT/DVT/PVT).
The Engineer in this role must understand hardware design, SMT/FATP manufacturing processes and test methodology. This position requires extensive travel in Asia. Primary day-to-day activity will be at locations in Johor Bahru, Malaysia with occasional travel to Penang, China, and the US. An active passport and ability for up to
50% travel is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct and lead supplier audits
• Drive Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) initiation, execution, and closure: Issue and drive corrective actions related to supplier process and product quality, driving suppliers to root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions
• Prepare and deliver supplier communications regarding quality-related issues as required
• Attend regularly scheduled supplier-run product quality reviews, ensuring appropriate metrics are utilized and actions are driven to closure (SCAR, CAR, measure against yield data, DPPM, AQL, FAI, etc)
• Provide effective and timely data-driven information to management for immediate action and/or discussion related to QBRs
• Be a technical custodian of Supplier Data Monitoring and Analysis. Understand and prepare data for Supplier Monitoring Boards and monitor tools and dashboards for accuracy.
• Provide guidance to NPI Project teams on Supplier Selection and onboarding
• Provide Product Development DFQ/DFx feedback by engaging suppliers early in the development cycle
• Has developed a strong understanding of the measurement tools used in manufacturing and can apply that knowledge to perfecting in-place methodologies
• Experienced in reading, understanding, and verifying bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, engineering tolerances, and other technical information
• Create and/or review ECO’s
• Defines First Article acceptance criteria and ongoing Receiving Inspection criteria
• Works with the ME or Manufacturing Partner in the design and development of the manufacturing process and fixturing at Dolby’s manufacturing partner facilities
• Partner in the design and development of test hardware and test plans at the PCB and FATP level.
• Works cross-functionally with Engineering Design Teams and Program Management to achieve project milestones.
SKILLS AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree or higher in a related Engineering discipline (preferred Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering degree) from an accredited university.
• 10+ years of manufacturing engineering /quality engineer experience including SMT/PCBA assembly, electronic sub-assembly and test of electronics products. Hands-on experience in PCBA and FATP level manufacture, test, programming, and packaging
• Experience in an outsourced manufacturing environment; experience with contract manufacturing, managing supplier production and quality
• Experienced with suppliers of plastic and metal subcomponents,
• Supplier qualification, supplier management, supplier relationships, and QBRs
• Knowledge of quality practices and procedures, including use of metrics and statistical analyses
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) are a plus
• Six Sigma Certified (Green or Black Belt) a plus
• Experience with Failure Analysis to the component level
• Familiarity with test instruments including spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
• Strong experience programming and scripting for test in Perth, Visual Basic, C++ and Matlab
• Familiarity and/or past experience with Java, and LabVIEW.
• Excellent English communication skills; verbal and written
• Able to travel: up to 50%
EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (EE, ME, IE) required, advanced degree preferred
