Dolby is transitioning from an ingredient brand to an experience brand. We’re building direct relationships in Android consumer space through our Google play award winning app – Dolby On.

Your role at Dolby is leading the development, prototyping, and deployment of new features in Dolby Apps for Android that enable an amazing variety of experiences in Music/ Video capture and playback.


This exciting role will have significant growth opportunity, pushing you to break with conventional thinking on technologies such mobile audio-video capture, editing and playback utilizing the capabilities of smartphones and Android OS.


As a Staff engineer Mobile Apps, you will lead and collaborate with talented engineers as part of a high-impact team developing new proof of concept apps in audio-video space. You will also own and maintain existing Dolby On Android app (Google Play award winner). You will lead and co-ordinate work with a cross geo vendor engineering team with a responsibility of apps architecture, code ownership and deployment of the apps on App store.



The Role: 

  •    Plan, design, develop and deliver Android native audio-video capture, playback and streaming application proof of concepts
  • Lead the “Dolby On” android app development with cross geo team and stakeholders
  •    Lead and contribute towards Android application software architecture and design, functional implementation and code reviews
  • Serve as an android apps development expert in project team to evangelise and follow industry best software development processes
  • Serve as a technical lead, mentor and guide for junior members in project team;
  • Establish and breakdown product requirements to software design requirements.
  • Collaborate with audio/video engineers and QA engineers in the company on projects.
  •    Anticipate and mitigate potential issues and risks in a cross-geo project.



  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering or computer science or equivalent.
  • Solid background in architecting and developing native android apps for Google Playstore
  • 6+ years’ commercial experience in mobile apps engineering using Kotlin and/or Java
  • Professional experience using Android Media frameworks is desirable
  • Professional experience using Android Studio, Firebase and JSON/REST, RxJava2, Dependency Injection, Room, Data Binding in mobile applications
  • Experience using application programming design patterns (MVC, MVVM etc)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills



Nice to have:


Technical understanding of and experience with any of the following:

  • Audio/Video capture and playback on android
  • Knowledge of developing mobile apps using react-native or flutter
  • Background in music
