We are seeking a Staff Camera ISP Architect to design and develop architectures for integrating HDR video processing algorithms for mobile capture systems. In this role, you will lead the development of deliverables for camera and ISP integration throughout the product lifecycle, from specification, system definition and vendor selection, including software development and image quality tuning and evaluation. You will work closely with product management, system architects, video algorithm engineers, and camera hardware engineers to solve complex technical challenges and deliver high-quality products. You will demonstrate core expertise in image and video processing algorithms deployed in camera ISP and be proficient in camera calibration, picture quality tuning, image quality metrics with the ability to simulate ISP pipelines.


This is a full-time position based in Sunnyvale, CA.


Essential Job Functions

  • Define, characterize, evaluate, validate and deploy camera ISP algorithms and settings for mobile capture of HDR video.
  • Specify, develop and drive test methodology and plans as well as incoming and outgoing HDR image quality control procedures.
  • Develop infrastructure for ISP integration and evaluation; cooperate with vendors on camera capture development, testing and validation as well as optical environment setup.
  • Apply your knowledge of HDR image quality to invent new technologies; maintain competitive landscape portfolio of various camera module and subsystem partner technologies.
  • Lead discussions with vendors in the space of camera module, image sensor, interface, ISP SoC, etc.
  • Define and drive detailed technical requirements and metrics for mobile capture HDR imagery specification and testing.
  • Work with external vendors and cross-functional teams to diagnose and solve sensor and ISP problems
  • Create and manage the implementation of software drivers, libraries and APIs to interface with hardware



Education, Skills, Abilities, and Experience Required

  • Masters or PhD in a technical discipline of electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, imaging science, or optical science, etc.  
  • 6+ years of experience in ISP architecture or design, supporting image processing use cases, or other closely related use cases such as computer vision, machine learning, graphics, etc.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with camera systems at component level (optics, electronics and ISP) and image sensor verification and validation (CMOS sensor noise and color performance, HDR capabilities, etc.)
  • Extensive experience with image capture and analysis using CMOS sensors, physical performance simulation in Matlab or python, digital imaging pipeline and algorithms, and possible implementation of cameras on mobile phones
  • Strong knowledge in optics and lens design/performance, and mobile phone camera module related experience
  • Experience working on image quality tuning, evaluation and color management for imaging sensors, digital cameras or other imaging systems.
  • Desirable to have solid understanding and knowledge in related areas:
    • Camera 3A algorithms
    • Android Camera HAL, kernel drivers
    • CMOS image sensors, optics, and actuator
    • Computer vision and/or machine learning
    • GPU, OpenCL, OpenCV
    • DSP/SIMD programming for complex image processing tasks
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience of working with remote teams and cross-functional teams
