SUMMARY

You will bring your experience in video encoding and processing technology to Dolby Vision system. As a prerequisite for your work, you have proven knowledge of the signal/image/video processing/machine learning/computer vision. Your solid understanding of trade-offs between computational complexity and picture quality gain of different implementations will guide you in decisions. You will research and develop new algorithms to improve Dolby Vision system, develop proof-of-concept prototype, and evaluate end-to-end system performance. You must have an in-depth understanding of the key processes in image and video processing systems. You have extensive experience in developing encoding and video pre-/post-processing algorithms with machine learning and computer vision skills to improve perceptual picture quality. You will join a highly skilled and motivated team to research and develop advanced video encoding and video processing technologies to improve user experience.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with a general understanding of competitive technologies in the area of focus
  • Works to understand the system context in which new technologies will be used and the requirements that the technology must fulfill for success
  • Creates early-stage conceptual models that demonstrate feasibility
  • Creates application level reference software and/or cloud signal processing software that are efficient, modular, well documented, bug free and understandable by others skilled in the art
  • Document and present the new algorithms and implementations in various forms, such as technical white papers and internal meeting
  • Maintain the highest technical and moral integrity for Dolby in the workplace and marketplace

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in developing algorithms for video compression and video processing learning systems
  • Intimately familiar with video processing, video coding, computer vision, and machine learning systems, as well as corresponding software in consumer and professional products
  • In-depth understandingof pre-/post-processing algorithms including implementation aspects
  • Proficient in Matlab/C/C++ programming applied to image/video processing is required
  • Self-motivated, quick learner and strong team player with ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • It is highly desirable to have one or more of the following:
    • Experience in filing patents of newly developed technologies
    • Hands-on experience in applying Computer Vision and Machine Learning algorithms to image processing problems
    • Proven track record of successful research accomplishments, published papers, and/or patent applications in the field of video encoding and processing

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Working towards a Ph.D.degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science; recent grads who are within 1 year of graduation are also eligible to apply
  • Must be available to work full-time Monday–Friday for 3-months between May/June 2021–August/September 2021. Start dates for the internship are as follows: (*note* these dates are not flexible)
    • Monday, May 24, 2021
    • Monday, June 14, 2021
    • Monday, June 21, 2021
  • COVID UPDATE: This internship will be remote until further notice. Should conditions change, and we can safely allow employeesto return to our campuses, there is a possibility of returning to onsite work.
