This opportunity is in the Science Group – within the Technology Strategy department of Dolby Laboratories.

The Science Group is a cross-functional group spanning all business interests of the company, focusing on increasing the amount of science-driven work done at Dolby. The Science Group’s mission is to solve business problems through the application of a deep understanding of how to quantify, model, and engage the human sensory experience.

We are looking for a self-motivated, talented individual interested in applying their theoretical and practical expertise in computational data-driven development as well as develop prototypes to shape the future of entertainment.

You will work as part of the Science Group to design and develop software to bring to life new technologies. This may involve API work for dolby.io. mobile application development for audio/visual entertainment experiences, implementing video or audio processing algorithms leveraging machine learning and signal processing techniques, working with novel sensor development boards, software supporting subjective and objective testing, and more.



This is a junior software engineering role, which requires strong software development skills, knowledge of machine learning and deep learning, rapid prototyping skills, and experience with multiple programming languages. You will develop demo and prototype applications that showcase new technologies being developed in the Science Group. You will deliver quality work against technical challenges in a dynamic environment while following strong software design and process principles to meet our internal demands.



  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical engineering, computer science or comparable field
  • Experience with audio signal processing and/or image processing.
  • Experience designing and training deep networks.
  • Previous experience working with TensorFlow, PyTorch or similar frameworks.
  • Machine Learning and Statistical knowledge.
  • Proficient in application development. Cross-platform development experience. Experienced C/C++, Swift, Objective-C, Python, and/or Java.
  • Experience with Apple OSes, Linux, and/or Windows.
  • Rapid prototyping.
  • Quick and dynamic learner.



  • Working towards a Masters or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or a related field; recent grads who are within 1 year of graduation are also eligible to apply.
  • Must be available to work full-time Monday – Friday for 12 months
  • COVID UPDATE: This internship will be remote until further notice. Should conditions change, and we can safely allow employees to return to our campuses, there is a possibility of returning to onsite work.
  • Strong interest in learning and researching new and innovative technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in teams and a team-oriented work ethic.
