As a Sr. Staff Engineer in the Image Technology Group, the qualified candidate will help develop software that enables the next generation of video technologies created by Dolby. The candidate hired for this position will be part of a team that works closely with the Research group to develop a proof of concept platforms, SDKs, plug-ins for external products, etc. The candidate will be responsible for various activities such as software development, mapping complex processing power-intensive algorithms to existing encoder/decoder platforms, writing test procedures, interacting with customers, etc. 



  • Analyze the breakthrough video concepts developed by research and provide feedback to research on the specifications and other technical documentation.
  • Comprehend the reference code from the research with an in-depth understanding of each module.
  • Analyze and understand the system architecture of the video decoder chipsets, encoder products, etc., supplied by partner companies and create a high-level design to map the Dolby technologies on their products.
  • Create modular, well-organized, and adequately documented code. Optimize and customize the reference code to various chipsets designed for set-top boxes and real-time encoder architectures.
  • Develop unit tests, regression tests, and other test vectors to validate the implementations.
  • Produce and maintain accurate documentation and software archives—coordinate development activities of the video engineering team, R&D, QA, and selected external companies. 
  • Assess alternate IC platforms for suitability for implementation of Dolby video technologies.
  • Participate and contribute to future concepts related to the Dolby video technologies and implementation vehicles for other Dolby technology.
  • Optimize the algorithms to run faster using GPU, SIMD, etc.
  • Utilize engineering experience in embedded software development for digital video systems, experience or a minimum of one product cycle in developing software/firmware.



  • 10+ years of industry experience with software development, preferably in embedded systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in one of the following
  • C Programming
  • C++ / OOP Programming
  • 5+ years of experience in one of the following areas
  • GPU Programming (OpenGL, OpenCL, or CUDA)
  • Experience in implementation of image processing algorithm.


Nice to have

  • Software development for Android and iOS image processing applications.
  • Software development for Gaming platforms such as PlayStation or Xbox.
  • Experience with Game engines such as Unreal or Unity.
  • 3+ years of management experience leading a team of 5 or more.
