As a Senior Researcher you will collaborate with other talented researchers and engineers as part of a high-impact team to help produce audio algorithms that will appear in hundreds of millions of devices. For this role we are welcoming senior researchers and engineers who learn quickly. A strength would be a mix of expertise in areas such as DSP algorithm prototyping, AI, multi-microphone beamforming and human audio perception.


The Role

  • Create, experiment with, and develop audio algorithms focused on audio capture in consumer devices
  • Collaborate with research teams to contribute to and help guide research into audio capture algorithms
  • Develop algorithms in both classic DSP frameworks and Deep Neural Network frameworks
  • Translate theoretical algorithms to real world electroacoustic applications such as the conversion of MEMs microphone output into robust mono, stereo, or multichannel audio
  • Work with product engineering teams to refine these algorithms to ones that can be implemented on consumer devices.
  • Implement these algorithms in Python, Matlab, and/or C




  • A research mindset that seeks the relevant questions and answers them through a set of experiments which thoroughly capture various aspects of the hypothesis.

  • The passion to constantly gain new skills and knowledge in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.


Technical Skills:



  • Research track record (e.g. Industrial training, taste of research, undergraduate thesis, PhD dissertation, Postdoctoral proposal). We want to see a track record of identifying relevant questions and seeking the answers in a manner that really moves a field of technology forward.
  • A tertiary qualification (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field with relevant industrial or academic experience as described below, specifically:
    • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) and at least six years’ R&D work experience or
    • Master’s Degree (or equivalent) and at least four years’ R&D work experience or
    • PhD (or equivalent) and two years R&D work experience
  • Ability to reduce ideas to practice using a programming language such as C, Python, or Matlab.
  • Sufficient mathematical background to understand and draw on relevant research material
  • Ability to use the ear as a measurement tool.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication in technology-specific applications.



  • Strong technical skills, deep understanding and work experience in one or more of
    • Audio DSP: Transforms, digital filtering, adaptive filtering, beamforming
    • Real-world audio: Dealing with real world microphones and speakers
    • Audio AI: Machine Learning and its application to audio
    • Human acoustic perception: The interesting ways in which we experience sound
