Summary Description


Responsible for technical functions in support of implementation testing activities.  These activities include: Testing of emerging and current technologies, ability to troubleshoot complex software and hardware problems, development of new test techniques and procedures, computer programming skills and hardware design, prototype and repair.  Applies professional and technical concepts and integrates knowledge and experience consistent with a skilled specialist.  Applications may include software, analog, digital, audio and/or video circuits.  Works under general direction. Standard work practices are understood and followed.  Work often involves schematics, block diagrams and multi-step setup instructions.  Exchanges detailed technical information and provides support with internal and external customers.  Applies discretion and independent judgment to solve problems and make recommendations.


Skilled in reviewing test results and determine reasons for test fixture pass/fail.  Able to communicate complex technical issues both verbally and in written reports.  Self-motivated and able to work well under minimal supervision.  Determines methods and procedures on new assignments.  Provides guidance and technical advice to others.  Able to prioritize a continually changing workload. Utilizes test, development or diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, VOM, DVM, computers, signal generators, signal analyzers and specialized test apparatus (i.e. Audio Precision)


Essential Job Functions


  • Perform Microsoft HLK test for Dolby driver.


  • Testing of licensed consumer product or implementation samples.


  • Compiling and generating test data and test reports.


  • Communication with internal and external customers regarding complex technical evaluation issues.


  • Representing the company during on-site evaluations.


  • Engineering support - hardware and software testing and troubleshooting, data collection and documentation, development/proofing of new test procedures and techniques, demo set-up.


  • Evaluating new or unique applications of Dolby technologies. (under engineering direction)


  • Miscellaneous projects (product check-in/disposition, prototype construction, equipment maintenance, listening room organization/maintenance, etc.).


  • Training of freshman technicians and licensing engineers in test methods/diagnosis.



Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Education Required


  • BSEE and >3 years of progressive professional technical experience.  Requires a working knowledge of audio and/or video product applications and design.  Experience with IC or firmware based audio or video processing desirable.


  • Familiar with Microsoft WHQL process, and experienced with HLK test.


  • Experience with C/C++ and automation script such as Python and VBScript is preferred.


  • Additional coursework as it relates to job. (e.g., computer programming, DSP, etc.)


  • 3+ years experience in electronics technology, preferably audio/video-related, including hands-on experience in troubleshooting electronics circuitry and devices.  Some professional or semi-pro audio experience helpful, especially critical listening skills.


  • Technical evaluation of applications using Dolby technologies.  Troubleshooting and repair of hardware and software.


  • Well developed technical writing skills. Clear and concise test results and test procedure documentation.  Articulate internal and external customer communication.


  • Solid foundation in electronic testing and analog/digital/software analysis with proven troubleshooting skills.


  • Demonstrated skills using word processing, spreadsheet and audio editing software.
  • Fluency in both oral and written English.
